Hurricane Dorian, a dangerous Cat 5 was heading toward the Outer Banks in 2019. On those islands off the coast of the Carolinas live a herd of wild horses, who escaped from the Spanish 500 years ago.
Some animal lover group insisted that the horses be rounded up and taken to a shelter. The ranger who was wiser, told them these are wild horses. Trying to confine them will cause panic and they will hurt themselves.
“But what will they do?,” asked the animal lovers. “Same thing they’ve done for the past 500 years: They will turn their butts to the wind and ride it out.” That’s what they did- the horses are fine.
But there’s a life lesson here. We all go through tough times. Sometimes that means we need to change something. But if we can’t, we should turn our butts to the wind and ride it out.

This is the easiest painting I’ve finished in a long time, for two reasons: 1). I spent twelve years working with horses. I know what a wet one looks like.2). I’m in a situation I cannot change, I feel like this horse.
I have a website with a gallery now, I just forget to tell people about it. But wiser folks than I say I must tell people about it, so here it is: https://artoffthechart.com
Have a great week!
