A Portrait of Toby

Just finished this goauche portrait of Toby. Toby was my friend Sinka’s Yorkie who died this year. I did one when he was old, blind and just had a haircut. But Sinka asked if I could put his hair back on, since he was usually fluffy. Fellow artists know-you don’t want to try to put hair back on-better start over!

My friend doesn’t know yet that I did this. I hope she likes it. In portraits I want personality and yes, of course, dogs have personality. Does Toby look a bit manic? He was. When I tried to take a photo of him, I had to take 54 shots just to get one without motion blur. And that tongue was always hanging out. I guess he was happy. I hope Sinka is happy when I give this to her.
