Whoa! Thank God I remembered what a preacher told me once: “Whatever you preach, that very thing will challenge you before the week is over.”

This week I wrote on the difference between boys and girls and how it is bad to be denied what you really want to do, just because of gender. And here it came…
Daughter: “Don’t yell at me.”
Me: “Why would I yell at you?”
She: “I just changed my major.”
Me: “To?”
She: “Automotive Technology.”
(Inner Wise Person: “Shut up! Don’t yell!)
Me: “Uh, that’s pretty far from nursing.”
She: “It’s what I want to do.”
So here is my lovely daughter, who has been a model, a manager and who is quite good at medical stuff. And she wants to major in Automotive Technology.
I remembered my favorite Sufi poet Rumi “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” She really loves cars, she knows a lot about them and she is mechanically gifted. But she’s a girl! And?
Me: “You look happy.”
She: “It will be FUN.”
Me: “Do you know how to hear your heart? ….When you think about this, do you feel Life?” She had been confused and drifting about for what vocation to pursue…
She, thinking awhile: “Yes.”
Me: “Then go for it.”
