Hey-We Found You a Boyfriend

“Hey, we found you a boyfriend,” my daughter announced brightly.

I’ve heard this one before. “Uh huh, and who is it, some local Duck Dynasty-type?”

“No, the electrician!” Now the electrician had just left and I enjoyed talking with him as I enjoy talking with almost everyone.

“He’s married.”

“He is?”

“Yes, please upgrade your boyfriend research criteria.”

“I tried to find you a guy at work,” daughter’s friend chimed in, “but they are all too stupid for you.”

“What makes you think they are too stupid for me?” This seemed like a harsh judgment.

“Because everyone is.” A compliment combined with a life sentence to singleness.

Where do they get these ideas? Do I go around using big words? No, I try to scrupulously avoid jargon in conversations. But then…could the word “jargon” be a big word in Deepswamp, Georgia? Wait, I am going to do an experiment. Be right back.

Me in next room:

“Jason, what does “jargon” mean?”

“Just random things you make up? Like slang?”

Oh. Ouch.

Maybe I’ll have to stick with my crush on Lao Tzu…and other men who lived on the other side of the world…thousands of years ago.  🙂
