Barry Goldwater lost the 1964 presidential election because Americans thought he was going to get us all nuked. His slogan “In your heart you know he’s right” was countered by “In your guts, you know he’s nuts.” Todays Neo-Cons make Barry Goldwater look like Gandhi.
Francis Fukuyama wrote The End of History in 1992 and was a member on the 1997 Project for a New American Century. In PNAC, neo-cons puffed out their pasty chests and flapped their chickenhawk wings, jonesing for regime change in Iraq and other military adventures. Please note that 9/11 had not yet happened.
We humans are fascinated with historical divination; that is, finding the key to history that will let us predict the future. This was the driving idea beyond communism, fascism and is the idea behind neo-conservatives, who started out as a bunch of Trotskyite intellectuals in the 1930s. How is a Trotskyite different from your average communist?
Trotsky believed, not in waiting for Marx’s historically inevitable triumph of communism, but in helping it along by permanent revolution. Neo-Cons believe in the ultimate triumph of The West, but in helping it along by permanent war, without which, they imply, we would all descend into disgusting femininity and decay.
Yes, the Neo-Cons are at heart Trotskyites, and in fact Fukuyama was a liberal Neo-Con. What?! How can one be a liberal Neo-Con? Look around at our foreign policy bigwigs right now: Susan Rice, Samantha Powers and the infamous “F**k the EU” Victoria Nuland-liberal Neo-Cons all. “Oh no, look, there’s a nasty thing happening in Pipelinestan, we must bomb somebody.”
Yesterday I wrote about the devil and his calling card, which reads, “I am the best. I am right, I am the most powerful, fear me.” This is the Neo-Cons calling card as well. “The West is the best. Paradise will arrive when the planet is covered by McDonalds, watched over by the NSA and busy, busy, busy making bombs in Boeing factories in Bangladesh.
“We have the mightiest military the world has ever seen. Fear us, do as we say, get in line with our version of history-or we will end you.”
They think we can survive a nuclear war, with losses of -oh, maybe just tens of millions or so. It will be “worth it,” as Madeline Albright famously said regarding a half-million dead Iraqi children; just collateral damage on the way to a bright new world. Human beings have no value to the devil. As the toxic pseudo-philosopher Ayn Rand said in We the Living, “What are your masses but mud to be ground underfoot, fuel to be burned for those who deserve it?”
These Neo-Cons are on an immortality quest, war is the only thing that gives their lives meaning. They are not going to stop unless we stop them. Speak up! We know they are always listening. 🙂
What is Fukuyama saying and to whom is he saying it?
The American Conservative, Why no one should still be a neo-conservative
