How about some critical thinking on global warming?

The Fearer
The Fearer

People resist change and for good reason. After all, we are still alive, so we must be doing something right-why take chances on new ideas? One way to overcome this natural conservatism is to introduce the idea that if you keep doing the same-old, same-old, you won’t stay alive.

The prime human motivator is to stay alive, so if we can be convinced that we must change or die, then we will be inclined to change. To make a rapid, widespread change of this type, tremendous resources must be brought to bear. No time for normal trickle-through idea-change, you need a worldwide blitz.

As a student of ideas, I find the global warming scenario fascinating. It burst into our consciousness like a nuclear explosion. Suddenly, if you don’t swallow the four-part concept and the need to ACT NOW, you are a flat-earther, anti-science idiot. There must be powerful people and lot of money behind this drive for it to have had such rapid impact. How about a little critical thinking on the subject?

First the scenario:

1. The earth is warming rapidly.

2. This is caused by humans and their carbon dioxide emissions.

3. This global warming will raise sea levels, cause disastrous weather conditions and melt the iceberg upon which innocent polar bears stand.

4. If we don’t ACT NOW we are all going to die.

Is the earth warming? Probably, since it is always warming or cooling, always has been and always will be. Climate changes. Duh. Apparently my native state in New England was once covered by thick sheets of ice, and for thousands of years. It has warmed up considerably since those bad old days, which raised sea levels by 300 feet over time. Don’t be shocked by discoveries of “sunken cities”-given our proclivity to get a place on the beach, there must be thousands of them.

Is the climate warming due to humans emitting carbon dioxide? What an interesting enemy for carbon-based life forms like our selves! Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. We breathe out carbon dioxide and plants “breathe” it in. No danger of this enemy disappearing like the USSR and leaving us enemy-less.

But the cars! The factories! Greedy, grubby civilization is destroying the planet!

Consider the possibility that greedy, grubby civilization is deceiving you about global warming in order to profit from both your fear and from say, trades in carbon shares or toll roads to discourage driving. Why would I say such a politically incorrect (i.e. immoral) thing?

Because in 1991 at yet another meeting of the Masters of Mankind, aka The Club of Rome, they decided the masses needed a new common enemy. And I quote:

In searching for a common enemy against whom we can unite, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like, would fit the bill. In their totality and their interactions these phenomena do constitute a common threat which must be confronted by everyone together. But in designating these dangers as the enemy, we fall into the trap, which we have already warned readers about, namely mistaking symptoms for causes. All these dangers are caused by human intervention in natural processes, and it is only through changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome. The real enemy then is humanity itself.- “The First Global Revolution,” page 76

Al Gore is a member of the Club of Rome. He is also the beneficiary of a company he started to trade in global warming solutions.

Ask yourself: Why does the solution to the global warming threat (if such a thing exists) need to be overcome by toll roads and more high-finance trading instruments? Why is there no major push to plant more trees, which gobble up carbon dioxide and provide shade and well, just look pretty? Why is there no push to save the lives of regular shmucks caught by rising sea levels? Or feed regular schmucks in the event of droughts? Is there not enough profit in keeping regular schmucks alive?

How about a little critical thinking? Is global warming taking place? Sure, why not? Either warming or cooling is always taking place, with or without human beings. Is it caused by humans emitting carbon dioxide? Maybe. Everything, after all, is connected. Or maybe human carbon emissions are insignificant in the great big picture. And don’t just scream “Science” as if science has never served political agendas or the Masters of Mankind.

THINK.

  1. I know where all the babies come from. The people with all the babies know where they come from. When is someone going to start working on that end of the equation? Vasectomy should be free and widely available. Then we will be doing something concrete to solve climate change.
